First Aid Training
Leicestershire Health & Safety Ltd came in to school to teach the children basic first aid. They taught them how to check if someone was breathing, how to put them in the recovery position, save someone from choking, apply bandages and the older children learnt how to use a defibrillator. 
Christmas Town
Wow! what a performance of Christmas Town by Class 2 and 3. The children did a fantastic job of learning all their lines and the songs for the show. 
Remembrance 2018
Children from each class walked to the war memorial to lay our school wreath in remembrance. Class 3 children spoke about the poppy factory, the people who were remembered on the war memorial and led a prayer. Each class then laid a wreath they had made.
Bounceathon
We had a great time during our bounceathon. Thank you to everyone who collected sponsors for our event. We took part in a timed sponsored bounce and speed bounce.
Sports Day
We had a lovely sports day on Hemlock Sports Field. Children enjoyed taking part in a number of races and parents even got involved at the end. We finished off the day with a picnic and ice cream.
Local MP
We welcome our local MP Mr Andrew Bridgen to school today.
Sports Relief
We've had great fun raising money for Sports Relief through our danceathon and skipping afternoon. 
Ofsted Report
Following our recent Ofsted visit we are pleased to say that the Ofsted report is now available for parents and governors below. It will be available on-line from 10th April.

World Book Day

We've had some fantastic costumes for World Book Day. Class 1 came as characters from Each Peach Pear Plum and Robin Hood, Class 2 came as characters from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Class 3 came as their favourite David Walliams book characters.
Nativity Performance

Wow! what a fantastic performance of the Nativity we had at St Nicholas Church, Lockington. Our KS1 children performed fantastically and were supported with the singing by KS2. 
Whole School Christmas Dinner

We had a lovely Christmas dinner cooked by Kegworth kitchens in school this week. Everyone enjoyed themselves and we were joined by our Chair of Governors Mr Funnell.
The Christmas Carol

Our KS2 children performed their version of 'The Christmas Carol' at Lockington Village Hall. It was a wonderful performance by all.
Mount Cook Residential
Class 3 had a fantastic visit to Mount Cook Adventure Centre near Matlock, Derbyshire. They took part in many activities including abseiling, canoeing, crate stack, rock scrambling and team games. 
Arts & Crafts Week
As part of recycling week each class has taken part in a number of different arts and crafts activities. Class 1 have followed a fairy tale theme, creating castles, shields and crowns.  Class 2 have made some wonderful dragonflies out of recycled materials and weaved with plastic bags and Class 3 have created pieces of art based on Picasso.  
YHA Sherwood Residential Visit
Class 2 went to the YHA in Sherwood Forest for their 'Robin Hood Adventure' residential visit. They met Robin Hood for a walk around Sherwood Forest, visited the Major Oak and learnt how to play medieval games. The next day, they worked in teams to create watertight and hurricane proof dens. We are very proud of all the children, they showed great maturity sleeping away for the night and in keeping their rooms neat and tidy. A great time was had by all!
Easter Celebration
Each class performed part of the Easter Story and sang Easter songs during our celebration at Lockington Church. ​The celebration was watched by many of our parents and grandparents.
Rolls Royce Technology Challenge
Our Year 4/5 children took part in the Rolls Royce Technology Challenge at Orchard Community Primary School. Each team is assigned an engineer to give guidance on their project. This years brief was to design and make a working canal bridge that could hold a 2kg weight or more. 
Red Nose Day
For Red Nose Day our student council decided that we would come to school dressed in our dressing gowns and slippers and hold a cake sale at break time. We've had some lovely cake's donated and we all enjoyed eating them. 
Singing Assesmbly
This weeks kids assembly was all about singing. Children from class 3 spoke about all the different notes and sounds found in music, played a piece they had learnt on the keyboard and even got the audience involved. It was a great assembly, well done girls!
Anti Bullying Assembly
As part of our weekly kids take over assembly, this weeks assembly was all about bullying. The girls did lots of research on cyber and other types of bullying. The whole school enjoyed their acting out of this very important message. 
North Charnwood Cross Country Event
Our Year 3-5 children took part in the North Charnwood Cross Country event in school this week. Over 18 schools took part in the event, with some of the races having over 100 children taking part. We are so proud of everyone who took part in the event. Well done everyone!
World Book Day
We've had some fantastic costumes for World Book Day. Class 1 came dressed as super heroes from 'Supertato' and Class 2 & 3 came dressed as their favourite fictional characters. 
Pancake Day
Each class enjoyed learning how to make pancakes. They all enjoyed the mixing and making, but especially eating them. We also held a sponsored pancake toss. All children took part and had a great time seeing how many pancakes they could toss in 1 minute. 
Hemington Christmas 
We've had a busy run up to Christmas. It was Christmas dinner day on Tuesday, Christmas parties on Thursday and a lovely Christmas nativity performance at Lockington Church on Friday. 
Christmas Performance - Dick Whittington
This year we have put on a performance of Dick Whittington. Children have bene busy learning their lines and practising songs. Thank you to all the parents for provding their fabulous costumes, they all look great!. This years performance was produced by Miss Adam's from Red Dot Theate Company. We would like to thank her for all of her support and work throughout the year. 
Christmas Fair
We had some lovely sweetie cups decorated for our Christmas Fair. A prize was given to the best decorated cup in Class 1, 2 and 3. Thank you to all of the children that took part and donated a cup (or 2). We had a lovely Christmas fair and Santa took time out to visit our school. We had lots of stalls, crafts and games for the children to play. We made a profit of £280 and this will be used to purchase new equiptment for school.
Open Afternoon
We had a lovely open afternoon in school on 31st October. Parents were invited in to school to join each class and take part in their activities. Class 1 were painting, decorating biscuits and making models, Class 2 were drawing pictures and writing poems and Class 3 went into the woods to design with natural materials.
Diwali Day
Children have been learning all about Diwali in school. To enhance the experience, we had a whole day devoted to Diwali and invited the Aakash Odedra Company, Leicester Belgrave Mela and Curve Theatre in to school. All classes enjoyed the morning performance of 'Hanuman The Hero' and Indian themed dance class. Class 2 and 3 also took part in a Rangoli visual art workshop during the afternoon.

Jeans for Genes Day
Following some personal development lessons on disability and the paralympics the children decided to support the Jeans for Genes Charity this year. We have raised £75 for the charity.
Autumn Fair
We had a lovely time at our Autumn Fair on Friday 9th September. Children really enjoyed playing games and winning prize tickets, decorating biscuits and whizzing round on the teacup ride. The event raised £644 which will be put toward new books for school and revamping our front playground. 
Assembly
Each class performed their 'show piece' from Miss Adam's Friday dance and drama sessions. Class 1 took us to Africa, Class 2 did an African, Indian and British dance and Class 3 reminisced about school.
Rounders and Family Picnic
We had a lovely morning on Hemlock field playing rounders with parents. This was followed by a picnic in school and a special ice cream treat.
Sports Day
We've had a fantastic sports day today, luckily the rain stayed away. Each child competed in a number of different races, ranging from three legged to relay. It was lovely to see so many parents and grandparents there to them on.
Sponsored Kayak
Congratulations to all the children that took part in the sponsored Kayak on Sunday the 26th. The weather smiled on us and everyone had a fantastic time. A huge thank you to Barrow on Soar Canoe club for hosting us on the day and the Boat House pub for food and entertainment, even those of us that didn’t paddle had a great time too. After such a successful afternoon, I suspect more than a few pupils will be wanting to be back out on the  water again soon. A big thank you to all of the parents who helped to organise the event.

Digital Music Club
Miss Adam's is running a new digital music club for Class 3. They really enjoyed composing and editing their own music on our Ipads.
​Hemington Family Easter Egg Hunt - 11th April 2016
Hemington families organised an Easter Egg Hunt on Sunday 20th March. The event was attended by children from Hemington Primary school, friends and families. It was a fantastic event, and everyone enjoyed helping Rascal Rabbit crack the secret code. All of the code breakers met at the Jolly Sailor pub for refreshments, a raffle (kindly donated by the Jolly Sailor), face painting and crafts. A big thank you to Lois Jewellers for donating the Easter Eggs and to all of the parents for helping make the event a big success. The event raised a staggering £287.
Year 3 - Beaumanor Hall Residential Trip - 18th March 2016
Our Year 3 children joined Orchard Primary School for a one night residential visit to Beaumanor Hall 16-17th March. They took part in a number of activities including archery and canoeing. They especially enjoyed playing hide and seek in the cellars during the evening and the night walk.
World Book Day - 3rd March 2016
For World Book Day this year each class chose their own book topic. Class 1 dressed as characters from ‘Where the Wild Things Are’, Class 2 dressed as Roald Dhal characters and Class 3 dressed as a book character of their choice. We had some fantastic costumes and the children enjoyed taking part in ‘book’ based activities throughout the day.
First Aid Training - 28th January 2016
Leicester Health and Safety Training Ltd came to school on Wednesday 27th January to teach our children basic first aid skills. Throughout the day, they worked in each class showing children how to behave in an emergency situation at home, how to apply bandages, check if someone is breathing and how to put them into the recovery position. Our children really enjoyed the day and we look forward to welcoming them back again next year.
